I've been wondering if anybody has found a full door kit that opens with the door or if anybody has made anything to completely enclose the cab. I am also wondering how to stop the dust from coming in i have a split front windshield a roof and a solid back window I also have the filler plates for the doors

New 6x4 Owner - Year / Model & newbie questions
Hi,
Like others, I have been unable to find the year & model of my 6x4, suspecting 2000. PIN is W006X4X04861
Good sites for parts? Seems many sites have parts for "gators", but there are sooo many different gators, I want to be sure I use a site that lets me search for the right year / model so the parts fit! Mostly need cosmetic things now, but as I dig, I'm sure there will be more! I assume Owner / Service / Parts manuals will be money well spent.
Two short term issues:

Two short term issues:
- When starting, I have to jiggle the shifter to get it to crank, assuming bad neutral sensor, is this typical?
- Regardless of position of differental lock lever, she REALLY wants to go straight, front tires scuff. Assuming it is not really releasing the lock, is there a way to check, can I adjust the linkage?

Brake adjustment on 6x4 gator
Can someone explain how to adjust the brakes on a 2001 6x4 gator?
It has some brake but takes a while to stop.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

XUV 550 Needs New Heads????
Purchased a new XUV 550 March 15, 2012. It is used for general purpose duty around my 20 acre property. No racing. No mud running, just general transportation in the woods and fields. The unit has 42 hours on the meter.
This spring, I noticed it was not running smooth and it would occasionally stall if I left it idling. It would also stall in the first few seconds after starting it unless I played with the choke or feathered the gas pedal. Then I noticed that it seemed low on power.
It felt a bit like it was loading up and possibly running rich, although it didn't really smell rich. I checked the air cleaner and it was very clean. I suspected that the spark plugs might be getting fouled since I do a lot of short runs, lots of starts and stops and sometimes leaving it idle as I pick up branches and junk.
Took it to the local JD dealer to let them service it. They replaced spark plugs and set the valves (twice). They could not determine the cause of the poor performance. They contacted the JD tech line and were informed that the heads and head gaskets need to be replaced.
And, of course, it is now just a few weeks past the warranty period, but the dealer is trying to convince JD to cover this under warranty.
However, I am curious about the diagnosis of needing new heads. This seems like an odd conclusion unless there is a history of defective heads on these units. I don't know what troubleshooting they followed. Don't know if the unit is low on compression, etc...
Anyone know of issues? I'm open to thoughts and discussion. Thanks!

Major problems with the 550 S4
 I only have 44 hours on my new 550 S4 and the transmission and the clutch both have had to be replaced!!! I have only had the gator since Oct.31 it's been in the shop for over a month of that time, over three weeks just for the transmission! Because there was no rush on fixing something under warranty!
Now it is back in the shop, because the transmission is bad again!!! I am very disappointed in the product, has any one else had problems like this with their 550 S4? Because at this point I am really considering doing something about it?
At this point I am waiting on John deer to see what they are going to do!!!:(:confused:

upgrade pre 2013 models to engine braking
I'm sure most of you know by now that the 2013 825i has "dynamic engine braking". I tried to get my dealer to look up the parts to see what I needed to do to upgrade my 2012 825i. He said he would call the area rep and have him find out what I needed. He never got around to it. I contacted Team Industries and discovered it takes a new secondary clutch and, get this, a new transmission input shaft. Why would they change the input shaft? Also Team told me they did not currently sell the clutches and I would have to go through John Deere. I checked back with the dealer, after laying out $17,000 just six months ago for a 2012 Gator 825i, they wanted to charge me suggested retail. We had a discussion and I informaed them how I felt and their comment was, "sorry you feel that way". Any suggestions on a dealer that is more customer friendly. This was Smith Equipment" in Indiana.

New snorkels
I just got snorkels from snorkelmyatv.com on my rsx 850i there good snorkels easy install BUT! My air box is not sealed! When I plug my air box snorkel my gator doesn't die from lack of air. I haven't tore it down yet. I used black head gasket silicone to seal all the connections and its really strong but is there something that wasn't snorkeled that should be? Maybe on the carb or something?

Programmers/chips?
Anyone know where to get and programmer or chip for my rsx 850i? I was reading and found that the same power commander that fits the 825 will also fit the 850. Is this true? Where can I find one??

Question on That Front End "growl"
Lots of info about the front differential and drive shaft growling, clicking and chattering in some models. My technical manual for my 850D, page 275, talks about changing the shims to try to reduce this noise. Service literature to dealers mention that the noise can not be eliminated in most cases. If you have this problem, you know the noise is very annoying, especially if you have a full hard cab.
My question is this; Will I do any harm if I disconnect the FWD shaft at the transaxel for the summer? I don't need the 4WD except in the winter here on the farm. The technical manual says to disconnect it for testing the noise issue but I did not know if a long term removal woud destroy anything.

HPX Power Dump
Can't decide whether to ante up and add the power dump option to a HPX I am considering purchasing. How difficult is it to manually dump the bed with a full load in it? I am sure each use is different and trying to decide if the cost is worth the cost. I would use the dump quite a bit and seeking thoughts on this topic.

The Cliffs Off Road Terrain Park RSX 850i
As you know the mid west has record rain fall the last 2 weeks.
It almost canceled the trip; but they opened on sat the day we went.
Unbelievable what I went threw Mud Rocks, muddy fallin down trees.
I was Impressed. Did finally cause some hurt to the gator.
I should have got rock sliders., caused some nice deep bends in the frame.
Stalled out at least 5 times on me at different points after hitting 2-4'deep mud pits no joke. My friends where the only ones there that morning.
Pulled the commander 1000x out a few times.
Lockers make a big differance in the RSX.
Also at the end of what they called trail 8 . What was the bottom of a washout
Rocks thick mud ,I couldn't get my foot of the nasty sh#t out .sliding over down muddy trees, we all had to winch straight up. And when I mean up the rhino would not get gas to the carb it was so step. So the winch killed the battery.
The RSX warn stressed but pulled me out , with the cable fully extended .
And yes I know about snatch blocks. In 25 odd years I have been all over and never winched ,so much at a vertical degree.
Any how. The 4 wheel drive sounds really bad I'm sure it going to be a lot of labor and parts.. But it never failed to the point of getting me stuck
I really wish they JD would have made it shift on the fly. Sometimes stopping to put it in 4x4 was not a option going down step cliffs. And or hitting the hooks befor the next mud hole. And I think that is what cased damage, it not engaging all the way when I had to floor it to get threw the crap, it started popping in and out. A very bad noise when you have over 16k into something.
But that's what I bought it for. One of the guys told my wife that I drove it like I hatted it.
On one down hill descents the front nose hit the ground first and the back tires came of the face of the hill.
It was Awsome stuff.
I will put some pics and video up when I get it off the contour HD
The Cliffs in Marshells IL. Is Awsome. It has 2 tracks and terrain that will make anyone think twice.
