4x6 gator running problems

I have a 4x6 diesel gator and it just started to act up. It starts OK but if I try to accelerate it starts coughing and putting blue smoke out. If it was a gas engine I would think timing just quit but I don't know enough about diesels to trouble shoot and the manual is a bit lacking on technical details. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

To enter all you need to do it snap a picture of any vehicle running Rage Tires and submit it as an entry. 1 lucky winner will be sent a Discount Tire backpack full of surprise goodies.

  • How do I enter?

    It’s easy! From Monday, May 11th-Saturday, May 16th if you a see a Side-by-Side fitted with Rage Thunder or Rage Storm tires, whether it be on the road, trail, or anywhere else during the event, snap a picture. Then share your picture on Instagram with hashtag #ragetires or email your entry to forums@discounttire.com. If you choose to enter your photo via email please title the subject of your email “I Spy”and include your name, address, and phone number in the body of the email.

  • When does the contest start and end?

    Photos must be taken between May 11th and May 16th, 2015. Deadline for entries is midnight Friday, May 22nd, 2015. Winner will be selected by Tuesday, May 26th, 2015.

  • What will the winner win?

    One lucky winner will be randomly selected Tuesday, May 26th, 2015 to win a really cool Discount Tire backpack full of awesome surprise goodies. The winner will be contacted directly through Instagram or by email.

  • How will the winner be selected?

    The winner will be selected at random. You can enter as many times as you would like but multiple entries will not increase your chances of winning.

2004 HPX ROPS Roll Bar - Install Help

I have a 2004 HPX that does not have the ROPS roll bar installed. I found one locally on Craigslist for a very good price (I believe it is Deere Part #BM24611 or Model #M0HX0PA), and would like to install it on my Gator. Before I buy, I want to make sure it fits and no major modifications are required (I know I need to cut holes in my front fenders).

I can't tell how the rear end of the roll bar mounts to the frame of the Gator. Does anyone know if there are any specific mounts that I need to install on the Gator before adding the ROPS? I can't find much here or elsewhere online regarding installation instructions.

The brackets on the ROPS look like they mount perpendicular to the frame, but I don't see where it bolts on. Are there additional brackets for the frame?

Anyone have some close-up pictures they can share showing the front and rear mounting points?

Greetings all, I am an avid hunter, fisherman, and hobby trapper looking for my first sxs. I have used Polaris quads for 15 years and am looking to upgrade. I have narrowed my search to the Polaris Ranger Crew and the 825 i S4 ( this is a family affair ) and have some questions for some owners.
How reliable is the 3 cylinder Chinese motor?
Any problems with the air intake locations ( too low? )
Does the 2000 pound weight become an issue in the bush?
Is the tire upgrade offered by Deere worth it?
What would you change on the 825 I if you could?
I really, really, like the 825 I on paper but the nearest dealer is half a day away so any input would be appreciated.

Replacing Brake Cable

I have a 2012 850i with a broken brake cable...Looks pretty simple to install. Has anyone else had this problem and replaced it themselves ? It's a busy time at the dealer and they said it could take a couple of weeks....I don't think SO !!!

Power steering trouble

2012 825i with EPAS.

Turn key on, steering malfunction light(SML) on dash board illuminates, then goes out.
Turn steering wheel CCW (left turn) little resistance, no SML illumination.
Turn steering wheel CW (right turn) almost immediate resistance and the SML illuminates. (steering wheel with ! ) .

When driving, turning steering wheel CCW no problem, turn steering wheel CW and resistance is present. No SML illumination.

With key in off position, resistance is equal CW/CCW and about equal to CW with key in on position.

Any thoughts on the cause, how to identify the cause and more important, how to fix?

Brake line repair

I had an end missing on a 620I brake line. Normally you would have to replace the entire line (very costly). The line is a standard -2 AN brake line and repair fittings are available at summit racing "Earls Fittings"

2004 4x4 HPX Gator Will Not Start

Hello, I have taken on the task of fixing a HPX gator 4x4 for a family friend. I believe it is a 2004 model and it has the 20hp carbed liquid cooled Kawasaki FD620D V-twin. It has 500 hours on it. It has not ran since last summer and has been sitting outside all year long. I just started working on it. The battery was dead and I charged it. It also had water in the gas so I siphoned out the entire tank and replaced it with fresh 93 octane. The electric fuel pump was not pumping so I installed a working used one. I have fuel at the carb. I also checked for spark and I get a nice blue spark from both plugs. Here is the problem, it will not fire when cranking. I could sit there and crank all day long and it acts like it has no spark. I sprayed starter fluid in the carb and all it does is occasionally pop out the front of the carb. I played with it for 2 hours today and I cannot get it to run. I need some help here.

I have a 6x4 gator with serial number WOO6X4XO14765 can any members tell me any info on this gator like the year made etc...? any info would greatly be appreciated and mostly thanks for any replies in advance

HPX Transmission problems

We have a well abused 2006 HPX 4x4 at work that just keeps going....until now. The transmission is stuck in drive and will not come out. We bypassed the neutral safety switch just to keep it going for now. We had sent it to the dealer a few months ago with complaints of difficulty going in and out of gear, and they said "there was no more room for adjustment and transmission would need replaced soon". I'm contemplating buying the unit (we just bought a new 625) and fixing it for my personal use. They also said something about it having a more expensive transmission than other gators that year...not sure if there's any truth to it. I need to do my research quickly to decide if I want to attempt to purchase it.


Any ideas where to start?

New 825i problem update

Just an update and an fyi for any new gator owners. Was having a continuous problem with oil bubbling under pressure from the transmission dipstick. After a couple trips back to the dealer they found out it was simply a bad dipstick. The original looked completely fine but must have been molded wrong.

Still have a rear end clunk noise/feel when I get on the gas and the clutch engages. Dealer says this is normal but I'm still concerned about it. I would imagine that clunk would wear the gears in the transmission. Feels like slack in the driveline or something. Anyone else with any input on that, or does anyone else have a machine that clunks sometimes when starting out?

6x4 Stuff

Hi guys n gals, Geezer from Ireland here. Just picked up an old 6x4 gator and turns out that its going to be a project.

Would any of you be so kind as to post a pic of the throttle linkage (kawasaki gas engine) on the engine and alsi the latches on the cargo box tail gate. Ive looked at the parts diagrams but they dont really tell me what i need to know

need wiring advice gator 4x2

hey yall new to this forum as a member but have found lots of useful advice on here in the past. I recently bought a non running gator 4x2 had a ton of issues to begin with but now have it narrowed down to just an issue with the wiring I think. it turns over and gets fuel but I have no spark. the ignition coil is new the old one melted due to melted wiring. repaired the bad wiring bought new battery and new coil it turns over and has good compression but still not getting spark? any advice? when I plug the wire to the coil it does not spark? is that a problem? thanks guys any advice will be appreciated

Cleaning up the 825i

I cleaned up my Gator some recently.

I always wash using the 2 bucket method with a third bucket for the wheels. I had previously applied a spray wax to many of the surfaces so quite easy to clean. The plastics will scratch easily if not done properly.

The slippery slope of upgrades!

I suspect I'm not alone with wanting to just do "little" upgrades on a Gator. I suspect the upgrades get a wee bit more expensive than this, as time goes on!
I may have Gatoritis, is there a cure?:D
