4wd disengaging randomly??? Anyone else with this problem ?
Ok guys so I'm stumped with this one, so I am currently having a problem with the the 4wd just disengaging on its own I won't go back in?? I can pull it out of the garage and lock it in and it's fine stays locked, get moving around for a little while thru the snow and suddenly it just looses engagement but the indicator is still showing its engaged? So I try disengaging it and u can hear the actuator doing its thing then try reengaging it and the actuator again makes the sound of engaging but still won't go into gear?
So put it up on jack stands in the garage spin the front wheels in 2wd and they both turn normal no noises, put in 4wd and it sounds as tho the sliding collar isn't sliding easily enough cuz it's kinda hesitant and doesn't engage right away but it does lock then go to unlock and spin the front wheel I can hear a gear noise in front diff as if the sliding collar for the 4wd is still touching the shaft inside, then it slowly slides away and it's quiet again.
I guess the end result of this problem is its dropping 4wd randomly and doesn't want to go back in , when out in the snow??
Could this possibly be a oil problem? Being that these diffs are just straight gears inside and that there is no clutch packs, and being that the oil should be fairly thin for easy movement I just filled it with a generic transmission/hydraulic oil that we run in the tractors. Could this be the issue? But why would it just slowly slip out of gear while being engaged? And not reengage after?
When it is warm in the garage up on stands it seems to work just fine.
What do u guys think? Anyone else experience this?
Thanks
Tim

Grinding hubs
I have a 2006 6x4 that I use quite a bit in the woods to gather maple sap. Lately I am hearing grinding coming from the wheel area and I suspect the bearings are going. I did not notice any grease zerks.. do I have to replace the whole wheel/axel assembly or can i add a zerk?

Seat belt/side curtains issues
Recently purchased a new 2014 Model 625 Gator to be used exclusively on a 325 acre tree farm/hunting support vehicle. Previously used a Kawasaki Mule in similar role, It is clear that the net-type side curtains (faux doors) will be totally useless and have been removed. I have also removed the seat belts and retraction reels.
Question...I would prefer to remove the seat belt buckles that project through the bench seat cushion but fear that to do so on the driver's buckle would short out the warning light and leave it in the on position.
This is a work vehicle not a "go faster" trail machine. Any suggestions as to how to decommission the seat belt warning light would be appreciated.
Thanks

Tread Lightly! Arizona Trail Clean Up - Help Needed
We need your help!
Discount Tire and TreadLightly! have joined together for a stewardship event to clean up the Table Mesa Recreation Area. Help us keep target shooting and OHV areas open for continued use.
Every Volunteer Counts!
Please bring water, work gloves, hat, sunscreen, trash pinchers, buckets and wear long pants and sturdy shoes. 4WD and OHV vehicles are useful.
- When: Sunday, March 1st, 2015
- Time: 9:00am - 2:00pm (check in starts at 8:00am)
Lunch will be provided!
- Where: Table Mesa Recreational Area (North of Phoenix, Arizona)
- RSVP:evan@treadlightly.org or sign up online Tread Lightly! Table Mesa Clean Up
- Directions: The Table Mesa Recreation Area is located off I-17 and Table Mesa Road. Head west on Table Mesa Road, then north on the frontage road. Follow signs posted at the end of the pavement. Volunteers will also be on site providing more information and directions.
Location Map: Staging Area
Additional Information:
The area is very popular with recreational target shooters, off-highway vehicle riders, equestrians, mountain bikers, hikers, and others because of its close proximity to the metropolitan Phoenix area. Unfortunately, this area is also prone to illegal dumping, littering, and debris that needs to be cleaned up. As public agency budgets fade, volunteerism becomes even more important.
Thank you to these partners in education and stewardship for supporting this effort!

New in Texas
Howdy, All!
I have just bought 2acres, moderate slope down to creek and boat slip. I am looking for the right Gator to transport older folks from the house to the creek and also to move my empty boat trailer (aluminum, tandem axle for my 22' center console boat) around on the lot. I favor the 550 small size and price.
I'd also like to be able to haul the gator around in the bed of my 4x4 F150.
I'd appreciate any comments and / or recommendations.
Thanks!

Gator 850D trouble starting
Hello all,
I'm new to the forum and just became a first time owner of a 2008 Gator 850D. It has the deluxe cab, power lift, deluxe brush guard, front fender bars, side mirrors, "quiet kit", and cab heater. It has 1668 hours on the meter.
It also has a couple items that I have not seen anywhere on the internet:
I'm very handy with automotive repair and plan on digging into this when the weather gets a little warmer (I'm in Michigan). To plan for this project I wanted to get some info regarding:
I'm sure I'll have more in the future. Sorry for the long first post!
Thanks,
Paul.

It also has a couple items that I have not seen anywhere on the internet:
a) a large nicely made enclosed metal box in the dump bed that has no manufacturer markings on it. This completely fills the entire dump box. I plan on removing this.It appears overall to be in nice condition but does needs some work. Namely, it randomly starts. Previous owner states it is likely the starter. The way it sounds backs this up. The starter turns over the engine but then quickly sounds as if it disengages. Sometimes it doesn't even engage. The battery is fine and using a jump box or jumper cables doesn't help. When it does start it runs fine.
b) an over-the-cab rack for carrying flat items like lumber. I will keep this installed.
I'm very handy with automotive repair and plan on digging into this when the weather gets a little warmer (I'm in Michigan). To plan for this project I wanted to get some info regarding:
1. Thoughts on what I should check and/or perform preventive maintenance on.I already ordered some new keys since my only key broke off in the ignition yesterday :(. I was able to easily get the piece out so no overall issue. I think the old key had some wear and just was ready to break. I didn't place any force when turning it so I don't foresee any issues related to this. I also ordered some cab door lock keys too (not cheap!).
2. Good online vendors.
3. Other Gator resources.
I'm sure I'll have more in the future. Sorry for the long first post!
Thanks,
Paul.

I'd prefer to fine a good used 550, where is the best place to buy a gator in the Houston area? I'd consider going afield for the right gator and right price.

Glow Plug Part #?
I just confirmed that all three of the glow plugs on the 97 6x4 I recently bought are dead. Yes I know they are bad, no continuity, no heat when bench tested across a good battery.
Does anyone know the part number for these? And perhaps a good place to buy them at a fair price.
Thanks!

Hpx owner with toddler issues.
Howdy all,
I have a hpx 4x4 diesel id#. M0HP4DX042450. Engine model# 3tnv70-xjuv
Toddler #1, 3year old boy. Toddler #2, 2 year old girl
Kids were sitting in the enclosed cab while mom and I were chatting near the rear of the gator. The little people were playing with the key turning it right to left over and over. I figured this would be fine as long as they didn't turn on the engine, release the brake, put it in gear and somehow manage to reach the gas peddle. What it did not know being a first time diesel owner is that cycling the glow plugs like that are a sure way to kill the plugs. I've got 3
Dead plugs (tested them and only one heats up and barely). The local jd dealer quoted me $53 per plug which equates to 9 boxes of diapers. Any body know of an acceptable replacement in the less than a box of diapers range? The plugs show a ngk y520j. I'd also love to know the year of my gator as I bought it used. Potty training tips also appreciated.
Many thanks.

620i tail light kit Help
Just installed a taillight kit and found that the brake switch that came with the kit seems to work opposite then the way it is suppose to. When you press the brake pedal, the button on the switch extends out and should activate the brake lights. What i have is, the brake light is on because the brake pedal is pushing the switch button in. Seems like the switch is wrong for this application. Anyone had this problem before? Talked to the dealership and they said to just bring the switch in and they would just change it out.

XUV clutch snaps in fast
Howdy folks. Just picked up 3 Gators XUV with the diesel motors. The one I have running now runs great except for one problem. The primary clutch is all the way open when you start it. But you have to rev the engine way up to engage the belt. It is staying open, and then snaps in real quick with a snap. It even spins the rear wheels on pavement.
But when you let off on the throttle it opens back up real smooth.
Acts like something is sticking till the dogs in the clutch get enough RPM to kick in. Any ideas?
Oh yea, just joined today. I am here in San Diego County, California. But out in the NE part of the county. From N Florida and am here for the work at the many plant nurserys in the area.

Hey would like to introduce myself, I bought an rsx 850i back in October 13. So far I love the rig. It's bone stock as of now but hopefully not for long. Hoping to make a lot of adjustments over time, I'm sure there's a lot of you who could share some wisdom. I've worked on a farm all my life and have always been a huge fan of JD
