Hi Everyone, I just received my 550 and am dressing it up. first order of business is to install a winch, does not look to bad but cannot seem to locate where to run the wiring to look like a professional job. I seem to recall a link to instructions that said to remove the center floor and run wiring there to get back to the battery, any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated

Newbie with a lot of questions.

I just bought a 2008 620i gas, its my first UTV and I have several questions.

1. It free wheels like crazy in both forward and reverse when on an incline if you don't ride the brake. Is this normal?

2. When trying to go forward or backwards it doesn't accelerates like a golf cart. By that I mean you press the accelerator and the engine revs slightly and then it takes off. Is this normal?

3. What are the maintenance intervals for this machine. I don't have an owners manual.

4. How do you tell if the water pump is working? I can't seem to see the coolant circulating in the radiator, even though it is full.

5. And lastly (but I am sure I will have more later). With it having 470 hours what else should I plan on/watch out for?

Thanks for the help

2011 825i engine runaway

mechanical guru's,

looking for some help in solving an issue with my 825i. Bought it new in 2011 and now it has a whopping 175 hrs. It's seen its fair share of time at the dealer and now it is back there for the 8th time since new. over the last two months I've noticed it running rough at idle and you could hear/feel it spitting/spuddering while cruising at low speeds. Sometimes, when you stopped and let it idle it would almost die or completely shutdown. Two weeks ago, it started this routine with me and my 3 year old daughter. This time it started to act up but then the engine went from 1000 rpm to 4800 rpm and stayed there. We were in gear going down a hill. we ran over a few bushes before I could get the ignition off. the Gator would not crank again for several hours. when it did crank, it ran rough again, and the engine took off yet again. I do notice a thin layer of blue smoke coming out from behind during the rough idle event.

I loaded it up to take to the dealer and of course they could not reproduce the problem. It's been there two weeks now. They claim there were no codes and that they have ridden it every day.

my limited knowledge seems to think fuel delivery or sensor related...throttle position sensor, MAP,????????? I have replaced the air filter, fuel filter, oil and filter. I drained the tank and replaced with fresh gas.

The dealership said they noticed a faint electrical burn smell but could not locate where it is coming from. "everything looks good to us".

Any thoughts of what parts to throw at it? or what might solve this issue?

thanks.
Brad

Useful Free GPS App

Wasn't sure where to post this but this forum was as close as I could determine. For those of you that don't have a stand alone GPS for trail riding or hunting there is a very good free app called Polaris Navigation GPS. I have been using it and it has helped me find my way on unmarked trails. Even though it's called Polaris, it couldn't tell I was in a Deere and worked fine:).

It's free in the Google Play Store. Perhaps one of our administrators would consider starting a forum on useful apps that members could share. Just a thought.

Gator 4x6 traction

New member here and i'm looking at a 4x6 Gator for my place. The property is mostly hilly and i want something that will have good traction up and down the hills and i can drive at a slow speed. I'm slightly disappointed with what i'm testing out. Going down hills at a very slow speed it starts to freewheel and i have to ride the brake all the way down, which i don't like. Of course if I add slight throttle it re-engages, but i don't want to go that fast. I was hoping it had a low and high, but i guess they don't come that way. Also, don't have much steering control because of the light front end. Any advice? Hoping a slight adjustment of something would take care of the issues. I notice the drive belt is very loose, but is that normal? Thanks in advance.

Fall day with the Gator

We finally finished a trail up a tall hill through the woods through the woods. I do not cut down large trees so the paths are not that straight although we follow old logging roads (often populated). We need to finish a separate down path to make a loop.

To climb, I lock the differential and put it in low. The engine runs about 4600 rpm at the steepest section but never seems taxed.

Near the top. The ridge is covered with mountain laurel and some rodededrum. Our trail camera picks up deere, male/female/cub bears, foxes, and dogs from somewhere.

The biggest lesson is with a lot of outdoor power equipment (chain saw, chipper, etc). that you use a lot there is always some maintenance to do.

1998 6x4 Gator Yanmar Diesel Charging troubles

My first post as a newby on this forum is asking for some help from Gator owners or techs.

Idiot light came on our Gator saying battery not charging. We bought it a year ago ,has 895 hours on it,second owner. Replaced the battery in May this year.

My question is, where is the physical location of the voltage regulator and how do I tell if the voltage regulator or the alternator is bad?

I checked the voltage in the battery,it is strong,14 volts. When engine is running no magnetic field on back of alternator.

New alternator at Deere is $120+ and rebuilt alternator is $287 . I am not a fan of throwing money at a problem. I have found alternators on Ebay running from $80-$167 claiming to fit diesel yanmar gators.

Howdy y'all. My wife and I bought our 1998 Gator last year. Has the Curtis cab on it. We are the second owners.Had 850 hours on the meter. Tires ,well they sorta held air so after many sighs from my wife bought 4 new ones for the back. Front ones are holding up fairly well. Came on here looking for help figuring out whether the voltage regulator or the alternator has gone bad.

experience mounting a kfi se45 winch

$

Just some observations installing the kfi se45 on my xuv 550
  • ordered thru eBay, winch arrived with second gator specific package including mount
  • mount was simple, just follow directions
  • Removed
    • Under hood storage
    • Seat
    • Left and right side panels
    • Front of seat plastic piece
    • Finally, the whole floor to expose the drive shaft and wiring
    • Shifter plate and cup holder
  • When I removed the floor, I cleaned up the dirt and rocks lodged under the front of the drive train knuckle. There is drain holes there but dirt can get lodged pretty easily, took my canister sprayer and with hot water cleaned that all out while I had it opened
  • The wires that come with the SE45 are screwy, the directions show the red and black labeled wires going to the battery, problem is, they are about a foot long and no way would make it back to battery from the solenoid, meanwhile, the blue and yellow wires from the winch are about 3 feet long, STUPID, I just switched them and all is fine
  • After cleaning up the drive train, I ziptiied my yellow and blue labeled wires back to the battery
    • The posts on the 550 battery were too big for the cable connectors but the 550 kit comes with smaller battery post bolts
  • Mounted the solenoid to the top part of the firewall, it is hidden from view by the dash
  • Punched out the hole in the back of the glove box for the handheld remote connector and screwed that into the glove box
  • Drilled 3/8 inch hole in the left side of the glove box and grommeted the hole. mounted the switch to left side of glove box in front of that hole with 3m Velcro and ran the cable cable through the hole
  • under the cupholder, there were 2 sets of wires with cable connectors that were not connected to anything, a black and yellow, a black and red.
    • Created my own cable harness, had the 2 red cables from the winch switch and handheld adapter, added another yellow cable. Connected to the yellow/black key switched cable
  • Cleaned up all of the plastic removed and frame
  • Put everything back together again
  • Works like a charm

Is anyone running the Muzzy set up? How does it perform? They told me the programmer is compatible with ALL RSX's.

the gator that almost got away

When I first purchased 5.5 acres up in Chino Valley Az it came with this gator and the Ford 3600 diesel. Both pieces of equipment I had no previous experience with, especially diesel engines. The tires on the gator constantly went flat, it started....sometimes and I was willing to give it away to anyone that would come and get it. But with the help of xcopterdoc and many others on this forum and some elbow grease on my part it's a great asset to have when running back and forth from my less then sassy 73 single wide and the barn for tools. Thanks for all your help, and yes it's the tractors turn:)
