My 550 S4 is going into the dealer again, hopefully for the last time. They are putting on a new bed, and replacing a head gasket. It's been back firing a lot. Still runs okay so they are replacing it just to be sure. Head gaskets are a know problem with most all the 2011/2012 models. Just in case you didn't know the John Deere Dealer said they replacing Head Gaskets FREE up to 500 Hours regardless of warrentee. I thought that was great of JD to step up to the plate and take responsiblity. Also they are going to adjust the linkage for the 4 wheel drive. It will not completely engage unless you put it all the way down to locking diferencial. Works great when it's in Locking Diferencial otherwise it jumps in and out of 4WD.

Old Deere User, New RSX850i driver...
Grew up farming with nothing but green in the yard. Still have green in my garage (x485 lawn tractor). Had a Yamaha quad for 11 years.
Life has changed (read "installed" wife option), so went shopping for something we both could enjoy together. Looked at Can-am's and the others. Found the RSX Sport sitting in a local dealer's show room while I was picking up oil & fuel filters for some 4045 Powertech power units and got hooked while taking it for a test drive..
Just ordered a new Midnight black edition. The wife & I are looking forward to the new Gator and retiring my Grizzly.

Get my 550 back today
I found out yesterday that my head gasket is fine. It maybe backfiring because of carbon or varish buildup. I thought that "SeaFoam" would keep that from happing but I guess not. He said use Premium Gas with 2oz of "Mechanic In A Bottle" per 5 gallons on each fill up. He said it was one of the best products on the market. I could only find 1 bad review and his problem sounded more serious than varish or carbon build up. I don't know what I'm going to do with the bottles of SeaFoam I've got. I guess I'll give it to my neigbor for his boat. He loves the stuff. I think I'd of been all right if I remembered to use it more often. I get the Gator back today with a new bed and the linkage adjusted again. Just in time for the grandkids visit :o)

2013 RSX 850i Sport with all the extras
I am selling my 2013 RSX 850i Sport. It has 29.5" Terminators on 14" M20 Kores w/ a 2" bracket lift, full no scratch windshield & rear shield, poly roof and factory Bluetooth stereo setup with 6.5" Alpine speakers, Warn 3000 Lb winch with synthetic rope, MoonshineXXX 9" & 30" light bars up front, and electric power steering. All decals have been removed and hood has been painted flat black. Also door inserts were installed and painted the same flat black. I have the set of factory Maxxis Bighorn 2.0's and 14" black alloy John Deere rims. It has 21 hrs and 119 miles. I am located in central Arkansas. I have not been able to ride like I wanted to due to work and hate to just see it sitting. I haven't had any problems with it at all, the few times that I have been able to take it out. ATV Transmissions
It seems that the only ATV manufacturer that uses something other than centrifugal belt clutches, most of these clutches built by the same company, is Honda.
Honda uses a regular automatic transmission as found in a car, albeit a very small car. I expect that in other than US markets, they have some very small automobile that uses a tiny automatic transmission that is essentially the same as their ATV transmission.
Last year our veterans memorial raffled off a donated Honda ATV as a fundraiser. On several occasions I had cause to drive it a short distance. The transmission was fabulous. The rest of the vehicle comes up really short when compared to a Gator. It has a single cylinder engine that vibrates like crazy. It has very short travel suspension that would really be bad for those of us that do a lot of high speed trail or rough dirt road riding.
In short and in my opinion, other than the transmission, our Gators come up far superior to the Honda when sitting in the drivers seat.
It appears that the centrifugal clutch belt system is the defacto standard and is here to stay, but it's hard to not imagine what our Gators would be like with that little Honda transmission.
Just dreaming.

Rsx 850i loud exhaust?
I just purchased a rsx 850i with 26 hours on it and the exhaust is extremely loud after 10 mph. Is there any exhaust that I can put on it so it will be quieter so I can hear the radio?

Hi all, new gator owner on board
My new 885D Gator was delivered a few days ago. I have enjoyed using it to muster stock (merino sheep) and check boundary fences on our property in South Western New South Wales Australia. I just wanted to say hi and let you know I look forward to using this forum to share knowledge about gators.

Gator XUV 855D speed limit and turbo.
I'm planning to buy a XUV 855D and I want to know a trick or if we can install a clutch kit to increase the top speed of the gator. The speed is limited at 30 MPH. I also want information about the turbo kit you can buy for it.

some info on wheels
The 4\137 pattern will fit the RSX 850!!!!! I put on some HD3 wheels and tires and fit like a dream. Only thing to look for is if wheel requires the flat end lugnut or the tapered lugnut. JD RSX 850 are tapered and that will make the difference on fitting....I have on hands information. Was tired of not knowing for sure! Hope this helps someone!!!!!!

XUV550 lift
Hey folks, I'm new here but thought I'd share a few modifications I've made on a XUV550.
Some may ask why? Why would anyone tinker with a 550 when the RSX or 825 offers so much more...? I needed a capable, narrow, and most of all, light weight side x side for use at a remote cabin in the Alaskan bush.
The XUV550 fit the application nicely with the exception of the mediocre ground clearance.
I set out to remedy that.
Immediately after delivery I stripped it down to the bones and started giving it the hairy eye-ball. Removing the shocks and checking for CV and ball-joint bind I determined I could realistically add one inch of lift without causing interference.
A simple shock drop-bracket was in order.

Tire Question
My Gator 855d has not yet 80 hours and the front tires (Maxxis Bighorn Radial) are allready almost used (rigth side 90%, left side 60%, normal pressure). The rear tires look better. I have been driving only very rarely with 4-weel-drive and normaly on asphalt.
How long do you drive with such tires or with others? Hope to hear from you soon!:)

Older Gator 4X6 clutch/shift problem
I have an older 6X4 Gator - well used.
We replaced the drive belt - did some electrical work, and in general started the obvious restoration tasks. The few test drives appeared fine, but now, the clutches apparently are not fully dis-engaging - to allow proper disconnecting - and shifting.
I have not had the opportunity to actually begin to troubleshoot yet - looking for any suggestions where to start -
Symptoms are internal transmission shaft never stops - to allow proper shifting into either forward or reverse - gear grinding when attempting to put into gear.
Suggestions please

Might sell my '2000 Diesel 6x4 Gator
Hello everyone, I am considering selling my gator. It is a '2000 Diesel with ONLY 519hrs on it.
I have the extra set of seats (slide in the bed and lock in) for this unit as well. It does not have the electric lift for the bed, I wanted to buy one but they are just too pricey for me.
Anyway, I am not sure I want to sell but if I did what would the market value be for one like this? I also installed a winch on the front of it (el-cheapo)
This unit is in good/great condition. The plastic is cracked at the normal places but is in otherwise great condition. This unit has had little use, I purchased this in 2009(?) and am the 3rd owner. This unit was purchased locally from the JD dealer in my town.
Anyway, just wondering what this might be worth. I know what I paid and it was not cheap (6K).
Please let me know what you think.
