825I fuel gage and excessive heat from engine

$

I bought my 2013 gator 825i gasoline engine new in 2013. The fuel gage has never worked but John Deere said if it worked partially, some of the time maybe shows full or maybe shows empty, they weren't going to do a thing. Therefore, I really don't know how much fuel I have when I am any distance from my fuel. Better carry a 5 gal. can of gasoline with you. Also, the excessive heat that comes from under the dash makes it virtually unusable in the summer heat. John Deere said I could modify the insulation in the dash but duh! that negates the warranty. I have been a John Deere tractor and implement owner for over 40 years but this one takes the cake. I never had a problem with my Kawasaki mule. I am so sorry that I got a Gator. Noisy gasoline engine, excessive heat and a non-working fuel gage. I went as far as I could with John Deere and they just told me to quit calling. Won't try this again.

Parking brake adjustment on a 825i

Can't find a way to adjust the parking brake cable on a 2013 825i. If I pull it up past the last notch it will hold. If I let it back down to the last notch it will roll forward. Fluid level is fine. I'm guessing the cable has stretched. Jamming a 2x4 to hold it up is a little hinky. Replacing the cable looks like a pain. Any suggestions?

Changing the engine oil and filter. Rerouted the gas tank vent line as well to the lower roll cage where the other vent lines are located. Anything else I'm missing?

I can't believe how low the gas vent line was.

620 rough idle fix

I found your site liked it and signed up. First post on the little Kawasaki twin is to clean the throttle body! Take the four nuts off, pull the body back, loosen and remove the long bolt studs, remove and spray with carb cleaner. Then clean your air filter and repipe a snorkel higher in cab. Worst air cleaner design ever! I'll bet this cleaning will fix most rough idle problems. Thanks

CHEAP door gap fillers

Ever notice the gap between the door and the body plastic (how could you not notice)? The dust rolls in that 1-1/4" gap when riding down the dusty trails. I used the thick black plastic that is used to line grain elevators, its 1/8" and stiff. It was available at my local JD dealer. Took about a hour to trim and install both sides, used Phillips head sheet metal screws, drilled with a 1/8" bit.

6X4 Gator stuck in neutral

$

Hi. New to the forum and in need of some help. I have a 6X4 Gator, maybe 8 years old. Was having problems with grinding while putting it in gear. Found the issue was the primary clutch and replaced that. All good there now, but seems that the machine is now somehow "stuck" in neutral. Shift level position was in forward, but machine rolled fine, leading me to believe it is actually in neutral. I suspect that the shift lever got jammed hard trying to force it into gear when the clutch wasn't working right. Now it seems jammed in the transmission. I disconnected the shift linkage -- no problem there. But shift lever won't budge. Any ideas???

6x4 diesel overheated

hi i just bought a 6x4 diesel unknown to me someone by passed the auto thermostat for the radiator fan with a manual switch. (the switch didnt work when i tried it until i tore it apart and learned what it actually did) After running the unit on some hot days in PA it began to over heat, I thought it was a blown hose or leaking radiator but came to find out about the manual fan switch. Now when I run the gator both the red glow plug light and the amber light next to it both come on intermittently now when I run the machine for 5 or 10 minutes then they go out but will come back on again after awhile. The dealer over the phone thought I had a blown head gasket. Does this sound right to anyone, because I surely dont want to tear it apart for no reason at all. Thanks in advance Phil

Converting Gator 4x2 to electric...

I'm trying to convert an old gas 4x2 gator to electric drive.
I'm debating how to connect the motor to the transmission. I could do it any one of 3 ways:

1. Remove the secondary clutch and use a chain drive to connect the motor and trans shafts.
2. Keep the secondary clutch and drive the cogged belt with the motor.
3. Keep the secondary clutch and drive the cogged belt with the old primary clutch to the motor.

Any thoughts on the best way?

Thanks!

Bill

Have an 2004 HPX that once in a while runs great, grinds going into gear due to high idle needed to keep it running so I'm sure there will be issues from that too. Anyone know of a good place to take it in west central Fl?

Thanks for any help!

XUV550 no compression braking

$

I recently purchased a used 2013 XUV550. I'm reasonably happy with it but I'm concerned with the lack of compression braking. I recently took it out in the mountains and spent a lot of time riding the brakes. I tried revving the engine to get the clutch to connect with little success.

The above trip was just a test. The place where I hunt has several long downhill stretches (5 miles or more) that are famous for overheating brakes on trucks that come down in too high a gear.

My question is how good are my brakes? If I use my brakes to control my speed on descent, how am I going to make out. Does anybody have any actual experience with this situation? Is there anything that can be done to add compression braking to this thing?
