RSX $25 Snorkel

Just fabricated a snorkel for the air intake only, cost about $25 (haven't got the radiator hose bill yet, but allowed $15 of the $25 build cost). Was easy and took about a hour. Parts list: 3"x2" plumbing rubber adapter(comes with 2 stainless steel clamps)$4.59, 3 ninety degree elbows ($1.39 each), 30" of 2" schedule 40 PCV pipe, cut off 3" to use later ($1.69 per foot), 3 -12" zip ties, 9-1/2" x2" NAPA radiator hose (part# FM66) price to be determined later. Some black electrical tape to wrap the radiator hose end to fit the 1st 90 degree elbow snugly. I cut the end off the factory air tube at the second rib, slide the adapter up to the 3rd rib and tighten the clamps. You can use the 3rd elbow and 3" of the 2" pipe and make the snorkel end a 180 degree end if you want, I carry it along incase it rains hard I can install it in a hurry.

"New" '95 4x2 Questions

Hello, folks,

My father just bought a used '95 4x2 Gator, and I have been trying to help him fix a few minor issues with it. I am a pretty good mechanic, but have NO experience with ATVs or Gators, so please be patient.

First, this thing GRINDS when you shift from neutral into either forward or reverse. The belt turns all the time, even at idle, so of course the gears are turning when you try to shift. The belt seems pretty loose at idle, and the primary pulley has plenty of space for the belt- it is nowhere near touching both sides at idle. I have adjusted the idle down lower, which has helped some, but the belt still turns just off of the small amount of friction that is produced between the flat inner surface of the belt and the output shaft of the motor. The belt can be stopped with very light pressure on the secondary pulley, so there's not much force there, just enough to keep it moving. The belt that is on it is a JD RE2871. I feel like that belt shouldn't be turning at idle, and that is what is causing the shifting/grinding problem. Any input on this one?

Also, the brakes squeak/moan at low speeds. It looks like this one has the Kanzaki KT35 transmission, and it appears to have a light hydraulic oil in it and it is at the right level on the stick. From what I can tell the brakes are wet, so would a fluid change be likely to help this issue? Is the correct fluid for this transmission the Hy-Gard fluid?

Finally, I have tried to find an owner's manual for this thing online, but there seem to be lots of different versions, and I cannot tell what I need to cover this old ('95) 4x2 model. Can anyone tell me which version I need? How about the same for a service/repair manual?

I guess that's plenty for now. I did lots of searching before asking these questions, and learned a lot, but had no luck on these specific questions. I hope I am not asking for too much for my first visit!

Thank you,
Regan

Side Play Rear Diff RSX 850i

I have a RSX850i gator wondering if anyone has a service manual and could tell me what the side play in the rear differential should be. I have .012" of play in the ring gear side to side (left to right as the machine sits) measured through the fill hole with the rear diff fully assembled on the machine. It almost seems like too much but wondering if there is a spec? I have a clunk when I take off so investigating to find problem. Thanks

855d electrical problem

Yesterday the engine of my 855d PS stopped and the 20 amp fuse from the ignition (Manual: fuse no 9) was blown. after replacing this fuse the engine runs again. But if I put the gear or the lights this fuse blows up again. My gator has 60 hours and is standing in a closed garage. what could be the problem?

Would never buy or recommend a XUV 550 or any other Gator for that matter...

Less than 40 hours on this machine and it has never run properly, first idle rough, won't run, dealer said 'tune up' needed to the tune of $200 (when it had 20 hours), That work took 2 weeks and made no difference, changed carburator on warranty, another month. Then starter failed, another 2 weeks to get a replacement and changed

Now it won't shift, I suspect another month out of service.

Never again !

6x4 gas gator - over temp lamp not working

All,

This started with the over-temp lamp coming on and the electric fan not running.

I found a corroded connector/broken wire for the 12v feed to the fan (blue wire).

I replaced the connector.

To test the system, I "grounded the thermostat housing temp sensor" and the fan runs. All is now good with the fan circuit.

However, I now do not have the over-temp indicator lamp coming on when I switch the key to run?

Is there a fuse somewhere? I have found page 2 of 2 of a gas 6x4 schematic, but I do not have page 1 of 2.

Any help would be appreciated.

Big horn 2.0

I got back yesterday from a week long trail riding vacation up in UP Michigan. It was fun by the way. But I ended up getting flat one of the days. We plugged it and slimed it, its still leaking... So my questions are... Does anyone have a rear 27x11x14 big horn 2.0 for sale or know where to get one? Any ideas know how much they are? I'd also like to get a front tire and rim to use as a spare for next year. (27x9x14 big horn 2.0)

Thanks!

When for a fun trip in SW Colorado last week.

Took 825i and '06 Honda 500 Forman, oldest Son (his wife is giving us another grandchild Jan 1 so she didn't ride much) from Calf and his Son and another grandson from Ft Collins.

These are from Crystal CO. We wanted to goto Crested Butte but had snow on road and no tracks from the Jeep boys. :(

My winch has quit working recently and I'm curious what the cause may be. Does anybody know where the ground wire is on the winch that comes standard on the trail models? Fuse location? Ect.

New to UTV's (20 hrs in update)

I purchased a 2014 825i and have since put 20 hrs on it. Yes I had the dealer do the oil change at 8hrs. Other than that I have had ZERO issues. In fact being new to this type of equipment I have been more than happy with the performance of what I need done with this machine. it handles the terrain which by the way is steep. I have a road from my pastures to a creek bottom that has 2 45 degree +/- a little sloped stretches. One is 70 yards or so the other much shorter. Thanks to a member on here the two footed driving style (keeping RPM level where tranny stays engaged in low) makes these much more comfortable when descending. Climbing is no issue as I have never had to get above 1/3 throttle in low and 4 wheel drive.

My questions are this:

1. What should I be watching out for as far as preventative maintenance other than what is in the owners manual. You know the stuff that experience has taught you.
2. What common issues, if any, should I keep a close eye for (IE transmission, weak spots in drivetrain or steering etc.

My machine is the 2014 825i, power steering, front and rear protection, power dump, 3500lb warn winch, power dump, upgraded tires to maxis bighorns and rims, hard doors, hella lights in grill and on top of roof front and back, back screen, floor and bed mats.

Thank you for all your help

6x4 Coolant Problem. Please help.

$

I'm a first time poster but from reading other posts y'all have helped me a great deal in the past. I seem to have a coolant problem with my 6x4 gasoline gator. I can’t find a serial number for it, but I think it is around a ’95 model. I believe the engine overheating is due to there not being any coolant in the engine itself to prime the water pump, because the engine does not take long to overheat. I have read on previous posts that there is a plug near the carburetor that when removed leads to a hole where the engine can be topped off with coolant. My engine is a Kawasaki fd620d, but there is no plug in said location, which causes me to think this engine was built before they added this plug. There is a small black hose that seems to run from near the coolant inflow of the engine to near the coolant outflow of the engine. Am I correct in thinking that this is part of the cooling system. If so, I was thinking that I could simply disconnect one end of this hose and fill the engine up with coolant, then switch ends and fill the other side up with coolant. I would just like to make sure that this hose is indeed part of the cooling system, as I do not want to make matters worse by putting coolant where it does not belong. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Kolpin Half Windshield for RSX850i

For anyone looking for a quality aftermarket half windshield (with an upper shield lip) I found Kolpin running a blowout sale on their remaining inventory. Apparently they are beginning production on a thinner model and are selling out their current stock on hand.

I'd checked around for one and the MSRP was about $240. I got mine for under $80. It's a very nice windshield for the money. The link is below for anyone who might be interested.
