850i or Commander?
Would you purchase the Gator again if you were to do it over? Main usage will be the deer lease and going to the occasional atv park with the family.
I'm concerned about the lack of dealer/aftermarket support, power steering, and updates to current issues.
Although I am open to considerations, my main other interest is the can-am commander 800. Does anyone know how they compare in performance?

New Motor In Place
The 825I/S4 got its complete new engine and was returned back to my farm yesterday, After two full weeks of owning this brand new machine I finally got to put it to work today.. The turning radius is very wide and there were several squeaks that had to be located and oiled or tightened or both and a right front brake that drags just a little.. The machine is very heavy as expected compared to my last two seather 825I, the ride is much stiffer and the seat way less comfortable.I guess on the upside it survived day one and it went every place i took it and the second employee had a seat to ride on rather then a five gallon bucket in the bed like he did on the older 825I..

Old 6x4 Gator Help me identify it
Hello,
I just purchased an old old Gator 6x4. There is no serial number left on the rear bumper do to rust. I did look under the seats on the frame for the number also and did not find it. Is it possible the first few years did not have the serial number under the seat? Thank you!

Gators in the Swamp
The ATV park that I go riding in has a lot of water holes. Quite a few of the regular machines that go there have installed radiator relocation kits because of the Sediment clogging the the fins.
Has anyone seen or tried this for the Gator?
Mine clogs after a day of riding and I have to hose it out all depends on how much mud I feel like slinging.

LED Bar
I want to put a 30" led bar on my 2013 825i. It's 300w and draws about 20-25 amps. Do y'all think the alternator can keep up with the battery. Not real sure how many amps a stock unit draws.

XUV 550 Honda Engine Conversion
I had a lot of trouble with the Briggs engine in my XUV 550. It was incredibly sensitive to a slightly dirty air filter and loved to fowl plugs. Deere's response has been that the vehicle should not be allowed to idle for more than 30 seconds and to not use it for short trips. Go figure a Gator that should not be used for landscape maintenance that involves short trips and idling... So at 100.3 hours out came the engine.
I replaced the Briggs & Stratton engine with a Honda GX630. The Deere spec'd Briggs has a non standard taper on the crank shaft and in the drive clutch. I had the option of taking apart a brand new engine to replace the crank and keep the stock clutch or to replace the clutch as well. In order to stay with a stock engine and clutch I replaced both with ones having a 1" straight shaft.
The Honda is very similar in overall size to the Briggs but has a more boxy shape. At this point I'm still confident it will be a quick and easy engine swap.
The first problem I encountered is the engine mounting base which is formed of sheet metal in a "U" shape. The Gator had a semi circular cutout for the flywheel and fan shroud of the Briggs but the larger and boxier Honda hit so I had to do some trimming of the vertical flange.

XUV engines
I am told the diesel in the XUV series is a Yan Mar with a good reputation. Is that true?
More specifically, what are the gas engines? One is a Kaw and one is from India? What is the Kaw an what do you know about this engine from India?

Seizmik Side Mirrors Finally Installed!
I finally got the Seizmik mirrors installed after two attempts to get them from Amazon. I got them from powersports.com
Summary: I like them.
Pro's:
1. Super easy to install. Did not have to do anything with the windshield. It has a clamshell wraparound on the bar.
2. Wide angle of adjust with angled OPS bars
3. A convex mirror that is not overly distorted so very good view to rear
4. Easy folding - breakaway feature. The friction to rotate can be adjusted
5. They work -- much better for backing up than a center rear view if in tight areas
6. Compact design so they do not stick out very far on each side
7. No noticeable vibration when riding on trails
Cons
1. Rubber spacers to protect OPS and reduce vibration have to be held while installing - minor
2. With spacers, there is a slight bowing of windshield. I think thinner spacer would be ok
Unknown
1. Construction - plastic housing,

Silent Rider Exhaust Silencer (almost) installed!
I got the Silent Riider exhaust silencer install but did not actually fasten it to the muffler shield as a test to check on fit and sound before I started drilling joles.
Does it work - ABSOLUTELY YES. The sound level is now fairly constant from idle to 4000 rpm. You hear more motor than exhaust than before. I really like the results. It passed the wife test. I also want to try to do a A-B sound video but only if I am in the mood tomorrow,
Does it fit perfectly - not quite, When you insert the pipe into the Gator all the way up, the Silent Rider is higher up on the muffler than the images shown by Silent Rider, I am not sure if the JD exhaust is different than earlier when the designed but the silent naturally wants to install an angle, If you reduce the penetration in JD exhaust it will mount similar. Ideally the silence inlet pipe needs a slightly different angle so the silencer bolts parallel to the exhaust shield, If you lower it (less pipe into Gator pipe) it does drop lower but also the angle improves.
Since I did not feel much exhaust leak at the connection, I will likely drop it down some and bolt it in place, The muffler mounted bolts will hold it in place. The clamp does not provide much value.
Update: I did recheck the Silent Rider web site and looks like they have the clamp over the connection rather than around the neck. I will look at that.
If you notice the white mark on the silencer, the cargo bed when in the up position does hit the silencer heat shield. The interface is less than a 1/16-inch so not that much.
The pipe on the riding that inserts in the gator is not slotted so you have hard pipe over the JD pipe so the JD clamp really does not secure the pipes together like spark arrester on the stock Gator.

XUV 550 Hour Meter Wiring?
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the XUV 550? Specifically I'm looking for the wiring relating to the hour meter (AM142727) and what it requires to activate the timer of the hour meter.
In case you don't read the whole forum I've hacked my Gator and installed a Honda engine which required a bit of rewiring. My hour meter turns on and displays the hours and the seat belt and parking brake light still work but it no longer records engine time.

Anybody had to change a throttle cable or do anything to make it less stiff. Think I've just got a bad cable but wondered if it was a common issue.

XUV 620i Stuck in 4WD
I was driving my Gator XUV 620i in 2WD mode a couple of days ago and all of a sudden it shifts itself into 4WD. The XUV has on-demand 4WD with a rocker switch which electronically switches between 2WD and 4WD mode. The switch was in 2WD mode when it shifted itself into 4WD. I have switched back and forth between 4WD and 2WD. I also drove it in reverse several times in case it was wedged in 4WD. I pulled the mode switch from its socket. Nothing I have done as this point has released it from 4WD mode.
Does anyone know what may have caused my problem and how to correct it?
