Rsx850i Build Thread

So I've been wanting to do a build thread on the Deere but thought it might too late, however as I sit in my ME Orientation I've had some pretty wild thoughts running through my head about all the upgrades I plan on doing this summer. A good friend of mine is trying to get his tire shop hooked up with Gorilla, he owns the white and black Ranger you've probably seen in some of my pictures is about to add some 31 inch Laws on his ride and I find the Gator is sitting a little too low for my liking and if I'm buying tires I figure I might as well buy wheels.. and of course I'll need a lift.. and I'll probably break my stock axles so I might as well go with Gorilla.. and well you know how it is. One thing leads to another and the list goes on. Anyway this is going to be my new build thread following all the modifications I'm going to be adding over the course of the summer. Most of you know how the Deere currently sits, but I'll attach a picture anyway. But first a list.

I'm really leaning toward these wheels. The RSX has the same bolt pattern as a Kawasaki or Can-Am if I'm not mistaken... 4x137mm?

I'm also concerned about the 31s fitting even with the 2 inch lift. Does anybody know of someone running this set up? Not having a previous reference is the only downside to wanting to be different I suppose.

Snorkels come in yesterday I hope to put them on at the shop this weekend for our Fix-It Friday but until then this is how the Deere sits right now minus the speakers being moved to the top of the roll cage rather than the sides ( just not as clean).

Fyi everyone they changed the bed side decals to a much higher quality 3m decal. The stock ones shred when a power washer even comes close. New ones are much much better.

Just pick up my new camo trail with front and rear windshields and a roof a couple days ago , been real impressed with the power and handling of the machine . had a 700 ranger before this, always felt like i was driving a school bus.cant wait till Bwd 1995 post his snorkel installation pic ,i believe he has a rear panel and window been wondering how that's going to workout.my guestion is can you hear the drive train ,maybe because the clutches are right under the seats,i can hear them alittle more then on the ranger.its not real loud but it does make some noise at a low speed and then some when its in neutral.is this common ?

I had my deal look at the crack in my bed of my 550 s4. It is located by the tail gate center screw. This is what the dealer said, in his email, after looking at it.

hello mr vanderpool i am finished with the brake issue and we put the new kit deere has been having us put on,i took pics of the crack in the bed.it looks like to me that the robot they have putting these things together got carried away with tightening the hardware,i am sending pics to deere on this,im sure i will get a call from them and we can see what they will do for us,i would like to get your unit back to you manana, how does that work for you ?

I'll keep you posted on what they say. In case anyone else might have this problem.

Gator as a strict farm machine

Hello everyone first post here.Site looks good.

My first question is I am looking for a strictly work UTV and have been leaning towards the JD.I have Polaris ATV's and am happy.Speed is of no issue but power is.Mostly used to get around property and cutting firewood where I canot get with the tractor and trailer.Winch will be first accessory.I may use t in the future to plow my 500 foot driveway when I have it paved so that my pickup does not tear up the pavement. So some sort of cab may be needed. Can anybody give any pros and cons over other brands ? I do like the diesel clutch change to lower rpms....Thanks Ed

hello, the info I posted already is the 0NLY info on the frame, there is a barcode sticker on the side of the frame but it has no #'s beneath it. If it's any help the neutral safety switch is mounted underneath the shift lever. I bought TM 1518 online and it is not the correct one for this machine. By the way the barcode sticker has the same info as is on the frame. As before any help will be appreciated! Thanks again!

Time to decide

I have been monitoring this and other forums for months now, and it is time to make a decision. I will be using the machine for:

1. To move in and out of bottoms that a D6 dozer opened up for me. The trail is 400-500 yards long in a switchback pattern with on 70 yard section being extremely(40 degrees or so) steep. It needs to climb this with 2 or 3 hunters and deer etc.
2. Maintain the trails haul gear (stands, feed and feeders) up and down.
3.Pull a 600-700 lb UTV disc in very small food plots.

I have narrowed my search down (I think) to three machines listed in the order (again I think) I want:
Pioneer 4
Gator 825i
Ranger 900 XP

If the Pioneer will do the three above I feel it suits me the best. I DO NOT care about speed at all only climbing and hauling SAFELY. Any advice or help and especially correction of my though process would be greatly appreciated. I am in South Eastern Ky so the elevation issue should not be a problem. If you can help a dummy as I have zero experience with any UTV.

Exhaust question.....

Looking at maybe getting some different exhaust for the RSX. Mine is modeled a 2012. But all the systems I see are for 2013-14. Is there a difference? I guess I dont understand why they would change stuff like exhaust already on these models in just one year after production started. Im kinda digging the Big gun 2-1 slip on.

825i Seat Cover

Has any one found a seat cover for the 825i seats? I have the 21", yellow seats, and they do not like grease and mud very much. SO I would like to put a seat cover on them. The recommended seat cover in the book is the 18" seat cover which does not fit. When I tried it, it actully pulled the seat up from the base when I sat down on the seat. If one is found this would actully fit the tall seat on the X540 lawn tractor too, which has just found a new home in my garage.. Yeah More green!!

Door inserts are in

Finally got around to making inserts. I cut the aluminum out of an old feed trough that was laying in a field.

Primered and then painted with semi-gloss enamel krylon, predrilled and attached with 10 rivets.

This truely is a worth while mod if you ride in a lot of mud or tight trails. There's a lot a crap that seems to make its way through that hole.

...dont mind the dirty finger prints.

Has anyone jumped the relay for the headlights so that they dont shut off after a 30sec stop? I think that is annoying as all get out. Plus, Im putting HID's in and dont want them to be turning off and on all the time and burn a ballast.

Motor Oil for 6x4 Gator???

What kind of engine/motor oil does a 1996 6x4 Gator use? It is a Kawasaki gasoline motor.

I'm looking for the conversion from the John Deer Oil to standard engine oil that I can buy at Napa or a local auto parts store. Can anyone help?

Gasoline in my motor oil???

I have a 1996 6x4 Gasoline powered Gator. The engine is a Kawasaki. Recently we started to feel it being underpowered, and lacking the impulsion it once had. Then it started blowing blue smoke. We did a compression check, and that seems fine. Changed the spark plugs. We then checked the motor oil, and smelled gasoline in it. We are changing the oil, but wondering... under what conditions could gasoline actually get into the engine oil? Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

825i how to lower rpm's & exhaust noise

$

Hi,

I know there have been threads in the past that talk about lowing the overall RPM's of the 825i Gator, and how to lower the exhaust noise level. I have recently done both and thought I would share my information. I have Kanati Mongrel 28" tires installed.

Exhaust noise:

I purchased a Silent Rider brand muffler for the 825i. As advertised, it immediately lowered the exhaust noise. From idle to wide open, you no longer get that "raspy" exhaust note. You can actually hear your tires and engine's mechanical noise at cruising speed (20 mph). I believe it gives a little more torque down low, but gives up a little top end punch.

Lowering the primary clutch engagement RPM:

I purchased the weights from a 2013 855D primary clutch (AM140452 $5), and the Team Industries 30-810005 primary spring ($25). This spring is red with a purple stripe (55/155 lbs). The diesel weights will need to be shortened 1/4" to fit into the 825i clutch basket. These weights are hardened to the 1/4" stock removal will need to be removed with a mill or cut off wheel.

Results:

Clutch starts engaging at 1400 rpm.

2000 rpm = 5 mph
2500 rpm = 9 mph
3000 rpm = 17 mph
3500 rpm = 25 mph
4000 rpm = 29 mph

I do not have a straight and flat enough area to test over 4000 rpm. Low end towing power is great. I hope this helps everyone.
