August of 2013 I inherited a '98 6x4 diesel gator. My first thought was to try and sell it for $250 as is or give it away. 4 of the 6 tires went flat daily, even with 845 (approximated) cans of fix o flat. It might start with a jump or it wouldn't even make a sound when trying to start it. With advice through this forum, mostly from xcopterdoc (still waiting for the microfiche:)) getting the tech manual and owners manual I replaced the battery AND cables (diesels are a bitch if they don't get their energy), a temp sensor and a relay. It now runs like a champ. If you are just getting started with a gator like I did, ask some questions and get to know how your gator works. It was fun, educational and I got some great advice from the people here. I'll check in from time to time to continue to learn but for now, my gator is healthy. By the way, most of the money was for new wheels and tires once it was running. Now it's SASSY:)

1999 6x4 puttered out and now is dead
First post on this forum. I have a 1999 6x4 with a gas-powered Kawasaki engine that I bought about a year ago. It has run great until this weekend when suddenly it started sputtering like it was running out of gas. I barely got it back to the barn thinking I just needed to add gas. However, after adding gas and turning the ignition key nothing happens. Engine does not turn over and I don't even get headlights, blinkers, or horn. I put a volt meter on the battery terminals and am getting about 14v so I think the battery is fine. I even hooked up a battery charger, put it in start mode and still nothing when I turn the ignition key. I pulled the ignition switch out and noticed that the terminals are a bit corroded so I cleaned them. After putting it back in, still nothing happens. Could the ignition switch be bad? One thing that constantly happens is when driving the gator, the key just fall out of the ignition switch when I hit a big bump. The Gator remains running, but have to put the key back in the ignition in order to turn it off. Not sure if this indicates a bad switch or not. Is there a way to test the switch itself or to test the other wiring to determine if it is the switch or some other relay? I have also checked the fuses and they look OK. Sorry, for the long post, but wanted to make sure I gave as much info as possible. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Bed storage box
Anyone find a decent size storage box for the bed on a RSX that will fit between the wheel wells? It needs to be about 29" wide, diamond plate or poly that seals so u won't have a box full of dust!

Wiring lights question
I have some lights and a day star light switch that I am going to install. Do I need a relay or can I just wire directly between lights, battery and switch?

Reverse Lights
Anyone tried to put a reverse light on? I have not even looked at the wiring yet but trying to figure out if there is any reverse circuts on this thing. I plan to mount a lightbar for the back but would like it to only come on when I back up.

FD620D Head locating pin removal?
Has anyone had any success with removing the locating pin/sleeves on the heads?
I just got a replacement head and its missing one, so I thought I could pull one out of the old on and put it in the new one. No luck so far.
I have tried heat, PB Blaster and plyers.

Bad ignition switch?
My gator won't start at all. No sound at all when turning the key. The lights and horn don't even work when key is in RUN position. I am assuming a bad ignition switch. I pulled the switch and did some continuity tests. I have a 6-node, 3-position Indak switch. Only 4 of the 6 nodes have stamps on them. They are M, G, B, and G (yes, two G's).
I got the following results from my testing:
- Key in OFF position, continuity from G to M (this is good)
- Key in RUN position, NO continuity from B to any other node (this is bad)
- Key in START position, continuity from B to one of the G nodes (this is good)
My question is the following....
If there is no continuity from B to any other node when the key is in the RUN position, I assume that is why lights and horn don't work, but would that also prevent the gator from starting AND keep it from running?

Oil Changes
What is a good synthetic oil to use in the RSX850i. I have heard that synthetic oil does not break down as bad under hot conditions. I have had great success using it in my Harley. Thanks

It will crank and run for a few seconds, then die. I cleaned the plugs but haven't replace the fuel filter yet. Any one else had this problem? Or know what to do?

How long of a warranty is available for the RSX at this time. Just order a new trail and dealer told me 6 months is all that available now.also said extended warranty for additional 6 months is $360 and 1-1/2 year for $790.00. Is all of this true?

Built a little bridge
We built a little bridge over a small creek to keep from breaking down the creek sides. It is in a turn and also without much of tools (pick axe, shovel, etc) and plenty of rocks. It is 8 ft wide and plan to add some side rails. Treated lumber is not cheap.
