Discount Tire Tale of the Trail | Smiley Rock Loop

It was another fantastic adventure. There were five of us that made this trip; Mike in his RZR 900S, his friend Noa on Mike's Sportsman 850 XP, Katt and Rachael in their RZR 900 XP and me in my Wildcat 1000X.

The day started out with an amazing cloud formation at the staging area located near Cherry, AZ. There were several rainbows along the way as we made our way from the staging area and over and around the colorful Mingus mountains to the town of Jerome.

The weather was awesome! The heat has finally turned to our fantastic Arizona fall riding season. The weather called for rain most of the day but we skirted around most of it, although, we got pounded at times and there was a lot of standing water on the trail which made for a muddy ride.

Our timing was good as we went from desert to forest and back several times. The colors of the changing leafs is always a magical sight to witness.

The town of Jerome was full to capacity with cars everywhere. Luckily, we found a place to park and had a terrific lunch at the Haunted Hamburger. This place is highly recommended. We even lucked out and were seated in a small room upstairs with a fantastic view of the valley floor. You can even see Sedona off in the distance.

Leaving Jerome the heavens opened up and we got dumped on for awhile. It did not dampen our spirits though and we continued on N/W of town on our quest to find Smiley Rock. We took a remote Forest Service Trail that is strewn with boulders.

I'm running 30/10R-14 Rage Thunder Tires on 14x7 5+2 Raceline Scorpion Wheels. They have handled everything I've thrown at them and I have not had to plug any of the tires yet. Riding in Arizona is not easy on tires as most of the trails are loaded with sharp rocks. This trip we had clay type mud thrown into the mix but the Rage Thunder tires had no problems finding traction, even through the high speed sections.

Mike was leading and unknowingly shot past Smiley Rock. Fortunately Katt and I spotted it.

After a brief photo stop we were back on the trail as we needed to "beat feet" to make it back to the staging area before dark.

About 6 miles from the trucks I ran out of gas. Fortunately I always carry extra with me. Within 5 miles, Katt also ran out of gas. He also carried extra.

This was great timing for a photo op; check out that beautiful sunset!

Another awesome adventure for the record books. It was a 100 mile loop from dark to dark; just the way we like it.

I just picked up a 1996 Gator 4X2 in really good condition.

It needs a couple of things, such as steering boots, but otherwise, it is near pristine - always garaged and generally used to haul grandkids around.

Alas, no paperwork for this machine -- I will be looking for a service manual and parts blowup for it.

Looks like this forum is the place for what I need.

Lift kit for 850d?

I'm new to this site and new to owning a gator. I bought a 2010 jd 850d. I don't like how dipped the nose is and would also like to put bigger tires on the front. I have looked online but can't seem to find a lift kit or even a leveling kit for the 850. I could make one, but I was hoping to save some time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

More Doors

I was looking to make a quick set of inexpensive doors to keep most of the rain and snow out. These ran me about 180.00 per door and took about 6 hours per door to make. Making the hinge was the most difficult part. These doors are made from 1" furniture grade PVC and two sided foam board 6mm thick. I bought the pipe and fittings on line from Formufit and the plastic sheeting locally in scrap pieces for 25.00 a sheet. Each sheet would do a top and bottom half. I heated the pipe to make some of the easy bends and used 90 and 45 degree fittings and 4 T's to make the connector to slide the top half into. Used flat black Krylon and a little JD Yellow. Still waiting on two latches and some Lexan for the windows and vent area. These are far from air tight but will keep most of the rain and snow out which is what I was looking for.
Nets from the factory:

The hinge is made from two pieces of angle iron thru bolted to two gate hinges.

I need to replace the steering boots on my old 4X2.

Flip Mfg is selling aftermarket Gator parts for about half the OEM price. Does anyone have experience with the quality of their parts?

Thanks!

JD 855 axles

G'day guys, we run a fleet of modified 855 gators for exploration work in the desert in Australia. We have a pallet of axles with broken cv joints. Usually the boot gets speared (yes we have guards on them) as we are pushing through bush and the CV eventaully fails but we also break axles. We have modified the suspension for extra lift and run 28 inch tyres. We have all different types of drivers and some are harder on the gear than others. Can anybody give me their opinion on after market axles and boot guards ? Cheers legends

What is your experience pulling a small trailer with the 825i with the factory tube bumper.

Did you use an extension tube on your UTV? Or would use an extension ?

This trailer would only be repositioned in the yard, this would not exceed the UTV limits.

Good Morning,
I'm new to this group. Thank you for providing this resource. I'm looking for info relating to a 6x4 diesel. I'm needing to find a reputable, honest service tech or mechanic in Western North Carolina. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Good mechanic/tech in Western NC?

I have a 2001 6x4 Diesel and am needing to find a reputable, honest, experienced mechanic or tech in Western North Carolina - 1 hour west of Asheville, in Franklin/Sylva. Can anyone make any recommendations? I will go an hour or more to find a good mechanic. This could get me into North Georgia or perhaps even into Tenn. The motor is having some intermittent running issue and I believe the trans/brake fluid needs to be changed and the friction additive added, as the brakes are terribly noisy. I might also consider selling this Gator if someone is interested....

825i Power outlet

Does anyone know how much current is available at the 12V power outlet on the dash of my 2014 XUV 825i?

I need to heat up an OA vaporizer for my beehives, and it needs about 13A for around 3 minutes at a time. I can bring a connection out from the battery, but it would be more convenient for my lazy backside if I could just plug it into the dash.

Power Steering Install

I installed a Super ATV power steering kit on a 550S4 today. This Gator was almost new and it was like driving an old 2 1/2 ton army truck. The kit was easy to install and was all plug and play. I believe it's the same one used on the RSX. Super Atv price was $600.00. I bought mine for my RZR a couple months ago off Amazon for $520.00. One of the best upgrades I made to my ride.

Hopefully someone can help me with part number for motor on plow pump.
Motor on plow pump broke out bolt holes. Still works and runs great. I looked online and found 3 different part numbers and they all look the same.

I am not interested in JD part number but an after market supplier.

Thank You!

Found out today that the 850 will run on one cylinder. I was climbing a hill through the woods when all of a sudden lost power and started to miss. I backed down the hill and found the spark plug wire on the left cylinder had come off, put it back on and all was good.

Hi all, I am new to this forum and to XUVs. Im looking at a 2011 825i with 1700 miles on the clock. The guy wants $8600 for it and I just want to know if this is a decent price. He just had the 4wd system overhauled and it has been used on his farm since new.

What do you think?
