I have been lucky enough to find an old 2009 Gator stored inside its whole life and only 95 hrs on it. Works amazing with one exception. The battery is not charging when the machine is running.
Now comes the issues I have run into lol
1. Battery is not staying charged. Now I have reviewed several posts here including "https://www.gatorforums.net/forum/gator-lighting-stereo-electrical/333-2009-620i-charging-problems.html" and "https://www.gatorforums.net/forum/gator-lighting-stereo-electrical/1736-620i-i-think-isnt-charging.html". Now let me provide a few details.
A. Fuses all look fine. Replaced the charging fuse with a 30 amp new one just in case.
B.Battery not running : 12.26
Battery idling : 11.97
Battery idling with lights and fogs on : 11.56
Battery reving engine : 12.1
C. Left alone for three days and battery reading is the same so no drain from something best I can tell.
D. Followed the instructions for testing the stator and found the following:
At idle I am getting a 16.7-17 volt reading across all three leads.
When reving I am getting 30-45 readings.
Synopsis
Based on the above, I believe that the Voltage Regulator is the issue(since when reving the battery is under 14 but the reading from the stator wires is in the 30-40 range). However, should the stator be putting out more than the 16-17 Volts at idle?
Questions:
1. How do I test the Ohm's as it asks to test all three wires at once and my tester has two testing probes.(new to me so please bare with the uninformed questions)
2. How can I definitively ensure the Voltage Regulator is the issue versus Stator?
3. If it is the Stator, I was considering just buying the heavy duty alternator kit since it is cheaper than a new stator. Does this sound reasonable?
4. If it is the regulator, does anyone have a lead on where to buy one in Canada? (I am in NS) other than the dealer who want 337 for one.
Is there anything else I should try? Really trying to learn the machine and willing to do the work if someone can guide me. Can do a video for all this as well if people think it is worth the effort.
Thanks in advance, oh and the wife says it is her Gator. The tractor is mine.. GO figure..
Also looking to put a lift kit on the dump box. I have researched this as well and cannot and won't pay the 1300 the dealership wants so have tried an actuator from princess auto. Problem is the housing is too bulky and it will not fit. Has anyone done this project and know where to buy the parts? Same goes for we technical manual. JD won't sell them to the public; shakes head.
