Gator CX Carb (idle) problem

Ok Guys,

2012 Gator CX (Kawasaki FE290D single cyl engine)

I am having real problems getting this thing to idle smoothly!

The engine only has about 30 hrs on it, I bought it from a guy that bought it new in 2012.

It did a LOT of sitting and not getting run very much in the last 4 years.

I do not know if the original owner used STABIL or other snake oil in the gas, or if he drained the tank and ran it out of gas when it was stored.

Above idle, it runs ok.

Try to idle and it clearly runs lean (you can pull the choke slightly and it smooths right out)

I assumed the carb was gummed/plugged/etc so I took it apart and "cleaned" it.......
The bowl was actually pretty clean...... nothing in the bowl. I removed the high speed and pilot jets and both were clean.

This engine is identical to the millions of them out there in golf carts EXCEPT it doesn't have the foot pedal start/stop. Which means, the engine is supposed to idle.

(Golf Carts and Gators with foot pedal start/stop do not and should not idle. they quit when you release the throttle pedal and start/go when you press it)

SO,

I believe this particular carb has an idle or pilot circuit that may still be clogged. I think it should idle with the throttle butterfly completely closed and the idle (or pilot air screw) should be able to adjust the idle mixture. (it doesn't do anything from completely screwed "in" to screwed "out".

Anyone out there in radio-land ever had an idle problem with a CX?

Thanks,

Rick
