Hello, I am a new member. I live in southeast Oh. I have owned a JD product for many years. But I we do have a serious problem. Has anyone had problems with the factory installed clamp on the fuel line connection at/on the plastic gas tank tip/nozzle breaking/cutting the tip of the the plastic gas tank nozzle on XUV 550 gators ONLY? If you own or know someone who owns one please check them. Last summer 2014 a 550 I bought two months earlier burst into flames 5 hours after I parked it. I parked the gator in front of my garage. It burst into flames and destroyed the gator and my garage and contents. $50.000,00 in damages, complete lost. I lost heirloom tools from my father in law who was a carpenter. So I don't need to tell you how I feel about those tools, planer and joiners.
The replacement XUV 550 is sitting in my drive with a severed gas tank tip. The factory installed clamp damaged the tip of the gas tank. I believe there is a connection between the factory installed clamp and unexplained fires.. There are reports at wwwsaferproducts.gov of XUV 550 bursting into flames minutes, hours even days after being parked. All evidence is burnt. I am not a mechanic, so the backfiring and hard to start problems was something I wasn't expecting. There is a smell of gas but we carry gas cans we do thing we love to do with our gators so with only 25 hours on your machine you are not thinking gas tank problems. Or at any hour for that matter. Escaping gas fumes from a plastic gas tank and static electric on a warm summer day what do we get gentlemen/ ladies? At this time I have been offered a "FITTING" repair free of charge from JD. The problem there is, what fitting? I have a severed gas tank tip.
I have sent pictures to JD at every level and not one JD rep has offered to come to my property and look at this problem. I am a retired disabled American who bought this vehicle because it is JD. Because I use this machine in my daily life. I am a small time wanta be farmer with chickens, goats, pheasants, ducks, turkeys and I am a bee keeper. I also plant and take care of a large garden. I cut ,split, haul and stack firewood. JD has not backed me at all. As I stated this is my second Gator. In the last two years I have bought 2 XUV 550 Gators two 300xl riding mowers 1- 125 riding mower and a 181 sthil chain saw plus chain saw chains, oils other parts and services from JD.
My picture shows the plastic gas tank sitting unmolested in it's factory installed place. You can plainly see the severed tip plus stains from leaking gas down the seam of the tank, plus blow back stains around the nozzle base. These stains show that gas has been leaking for some time. At any time my XUV 550 could have went boom with me sitting right on top of that gas tank like my first gator did in June 2014. My rant at this time is WARNING XUV 550 ONLY OWNERS OF THIS DANGEROUS CONDITION. Thanks for reading.
