been meaning to post this for a while for it is very important and could save allot of trouble and potentially life or death for our fellow riders.
It has happened to myself and other people on this forum etc.
the 850i main charging circuit is ran threw a 40 amp fuse located in the storage compartment on passengers side. this fuse and holder can melt( due i believe to overtaxing your charging system) jd is aware of this problem now and they are replacing mine under warranty.
if this fuse blows the 850 will then be running only on battery power and will get you about only half a mile if your lucky and boosting it or dual battery kit will not get you home. symptoms will be first dimming of lights then loss of power in engine then engine will stale then your not rolling anymore. could be very dangerous if ascending descending a steep hill or water crossings or if one is in cold weather and not prepared to walk the distance to find help.
so PLEASE anyone going into the back country by themselves carry some additional 40 amp fuses. it happened to me one night coming home from fishing and i was 30+ miles from my truck. good thing i always bring extra fuses and just happened to have my voltmeter with me.
everyone be safe out there and have a great holiday season
and don't forget to put something under the tree for the gator lol
cheers
