835M Turn signal/flasher install issue

I am installing turn signals and flashers on my 835M. When I connected the switch harness to the switches, the turn signals work without the key on, and the flasher switch turns on the headlamps rather than the flashers. My existing headlamp switch wire was red, so I tried putting it on the red flasher switch. It still turns the headlamps on and no flashers.
The accessories harness that has the front turn signal plugs also has headlamp plugs that do not work with my headlights. Anyone else have a problem when trying to install turn signals on an 835? I called dealer and don't have a response yet.
