No 4x4

I am having a couple issues with the 2015 825i I bought from the original owner a couple months ago. I thought I was upgrading from a 2013 Ranger 500EFI that I have used to plow 2 long driveways with for the past 6 years but right now I have gone back to the Ranger for plowing because the gator can't get out of it's own way.

One issue is with the plow but I'll save that for another post.

One of my driveways is crushed stone and is on a mild incline. The Gator really struggles to go up that incline with or without snow on it. I have the 4x4 switched on and the indicator is lit on the display but the back tires are spinning all the way up the driveway. I currently have it in the barn up on 4 jack stands.

I have figured out that you need to push the throttle down a bit to get the front diff solenoid to kick on (something about an anti-wedging fix that was applied to later models). With the engine running and in gear and 4x4 on I push the pedal until I hear the solenoid click and the front wheels do not turn. I found a couple other posts that mentioned something about the actuator rod in the solenoid not being long enough to engage but I have not checked this on mine.

One thing I have noticed is that with it in gear if I spin the back wheels by hand the front driveshaft does not turn. Should it? I think I saw it turning when I first put it up on the jack stands but I can't say for sure. Could my problem be at the transaxle in the rear or should I look up front first? Don't really want to start pulling it all apart until I have a better idea of where to look.
