Hello! We are working on a 2008 JD Gator with the Kawasaki FD620D engine, Fuel Injected. The complete engine number is FD620D-CS26. The E/NO: FD620D472505.
The engine was pulled from the gator for customer complaint of excessive blue smoke, running on one cylinder. He is asking us to replace the complete engine.
John Deere's complete engine part number is MIA12905. This number comes back as "unavailable" when we tried to order. Their tech support system suggested ordering part number "AUC17164." We assumed this would be a complete engine, but it showed up as only a short block consisting of a block, crank, rods/pistons, assembled.
I tried calling Kawasaki small engine support number, and the tech support person refused to talk to me. He said John Deere bought all the rights from Kawasaki for these engines, and he has no information to share. When I called our local dealer, they suggested calling Kawasaki direct. Sigh.
Has anyone ran into this problem? It seems like John Deere is dropping support for this fuel injected engine. We recently purchased a complete carburetor-fueled engine for a newer gator with no trouble. Are these engines troublesome enough that they don't provide them anymore as a complete engine? It seems like nobody wants to say what's going on, and we're left in the dark.
Any information would be helpful. I'd like to avoid piecing together an engine with this new short block using our heads & fuel system, as I suspect issues with this fuel system since this gator has ran so poorly for years....hesitating, stumbling, hard-starting, and massive issues with fuel dilution in the engine oil.
Thank you...Nate
