Bought a 2006 HPX 4x4 with a cracked transaxle case, stuck in low gear. I know a new transaxle is upwards of $4000.00, but took a gamble since i bought it at a reasonable price. I opened up the Tuff Torq UV31 and found the shifter fork had one leg broken off. I suppose it also caused the damage to the case. The rest of the innards look okay. I ordered a new fork of which there are many eBay listings, leading me to believe its a common failure. I also ordered some thrust washers and o rings since i have it open. I found one half of the housing on eBay but the other half will cost close to $500.00. I took it to a local TIG welder who said he could do the repair if i could get it clean enough and there isnt too much zinc in the alloy. Has anyone here welded their transaxle case successfully?
