825i fuel level display Issue

While driving my 2016 825i, I noticed that the fuel level display went from about 1/2 (a few bars showing), to a flashing pump symbol without a change in fuel level. So I pulled out my service manual.

I measured the fuel level sensor resistance (35ohms, which is good for about 1/2 tank of fuel). I also measured the voltage going to the sensor (6.9V, again good per the manual). I filled the fuel tank to full and started the engine. After about 10s, the display went from a flashing pump symbol to full bars. I shut the engine down and immediately restarted it. This time, the display showed the flashing pump symbol for at least 2 minutes (when I just shut the engine off).

I left the machine sit overnight. Now I have about 6 restarts and 2 hours on the machine and the gauge is working properly so far.

Has anyone seen this before? Or does anyone have any suggestions so I don't have to spend the money at the dealer for a problem that seems to be intermittent?

Thanks.
