825i half door kit

I recently purchase a 2012 825i with a 40850 serial number and was looking to add a half door kit. At the dealership, the parts person said that the kit was only for serial numbers greater than 80000. Does anyone know what changes where made between 2012 and 2014 that would not allow the half door kit BM24996 to fit an earlier model.
