My apologies if this has been covered already in another thread. I just now joined this forum & am not sure how to search for a previous topic.
I do fleet maintenance & we have about 45 Gators of varying age in our fleet. A common issue we have is fine sediment accumulating in the carburetor bowl, causing the unit to "nose over" & die under load after a short trip. Then it will immediately restart. The sediment is very fine, passing through the element of the lower micron filter media of the larger automotive type filter that I use. Disassembling/soaking & reinstalling the carb always cures the issue. I have also had a couple of units with bad coils which will open when hot then after a few minutes cool down will restart.
This unit is exhibiting the same symptoms as with the fuel bowl sediment, but that is not what is causing it. I have eliminated the fuel system as well as the ignition system. Unit runs great but after a short run in mid to upper rpm range, it begins to bog down & then dies. It will not restart immediately, but will restart after maybe 45 seconds or so.
I pulled the valve cover to check if the valve lash was too tight, resulting in a valve running off the seat after heat is induced. To my surprise, this engine has no valve adjustment. It has hydraulic lifters. I am wondering if any of you have experienced this issue. I have called my local JD service center & they said they have not seen this issue.
