Interested to know what would be a fair price for an engine replacement in 2012 550 Gator?
I changed the Oil on my 2012 Gator with 48 hours on it, parked it in the garage and then about a week later drove it to the mailbox. Heard a winding noise and loss of power. Took it to the dealership and they said it had slung a rod because it didn't have any oil in it. I noticed at the dealership there was a fine mist of oil behind the seat. So, now I am looking at the cost of an engine replacement. I contacted JD Customer Service and basically they said they couldn't do anything since the dealer said it didn't have any oil in it. Which, is true, but the problem is how did the oil blow out and where? This Gator has been to the dealership twice with clutch problems not being able to shift unless you kill the motor. JD customer service, stated, "that the after-warranty repair had been done to fix the clutch problem", but I still had the problem after the work was done.
I will never purchase another Deere product given them not standing behind their product and admitting that they delivered a defective product to consumers. And furthermore, JD hasn't taken responsibility for notifying customers of potential design problems with the early models, and taken corrective actions to resolve those problems.
So anyway, let's see how much it costs to replace the engine?
