Hey everyone - first post here, glad I found the forums.
Long story short, my girlfriend and I were lucky enough to find ourselves living at & managing a property which the owner plans on retiring at in a few years. It's 100+ acres, mixed ag farmland and a few outhouse buildings, grass fields, etc.
The 825i basically runs the place, everything from loose dogs to herding cows and pulling mowers out of mud, whatever..
The problem is that it's kinda beat up. Hood cracked, tailgate gone, winch cable snapped, taillights melted, etc.
My primary concerns are:
Seems underpowered or like something has been damaged. I know they're high-reving vehicles, but it seems off. In drive / reverse it generally revs up then "kicks" and grabs, moving - I think this is just the nature of the CVT / weights / clutches?
We've floored it over open grass and only made it to ~25+ mph? Maybe I was pussyfooting it a bit on the bumpy terrain, but still seems off.
Also, what's the deal with the switch under the accelerator? I can't find any mention of it on the PDF manuals OR searching the forums. When I depress the gas pedal into that switch, the exhaust note changes dramatically and the thing takes off. Is this "normal" or only for emergency-type situations?
Second, there's all kinds of weird electrical stuff going on. None of the lights work, but when I hit the light switch the 4x4 icon illuminates on the instrument cluster. Did someone just swap the two switches? I'll take a picture of the switch locations tonight. Logically I'd check the 4x4 switch for lights, but nothing makes any of them work (tails, markers, headlights, etc).
I don't know too much about this thing, I need to pop open the back and look everything over, check some of the circuits, etc.
How much are the body panels for these things? I believe the entire grill is gone and some of the front hood (which is also cracked down the middle - in half). There's also no roof at all, but looks like there used to be - that would be nice to have again.
Radiator fans work fine, temps seem fine, suspension is amazing, and no warning lights - but I'm still weirded out by how much noise the thing makes, how high the revs are, etc.. versus how much it's moving. I'll probably be doing the diesel clutch weights / spring mod ASAP.
