Here's the quick version of this story:
Bought a second hand XUV550S4 with a known bad engine (blowing oily smoke). Got it home, tore down the engine, did a ring job knowing there was other wear, but didn't care too much--it's only used occasionally. Ran great afterward for about 20 hours of use. Then started coughing and knocking and blowing smoke. My inlaws were headed to town and I needed it to show them the farm, so I assumed my rebuild let go and ordered a new engine, paid freight to get it in, and picked up the gator from the farm to work on that weekend.
As I pulled it into the garage, my wife, who has ZERO mechanical expertise says: "That doesn't smell like it did last time." Whatever, right? As I start to pull the covers to swap engines, that keeps ringing in my head, and she's right. It doesn't really smell like burned oil. In a flash, I knew what it smelled like. Diesel.
Thanks to my 5 year old, who was sooooooo helpful that afternoon when I was distracted and getting packed up to return home, I didn't quite catch the fact that he topped off the gator with my 2 gallon jug of "in case the tractor runs out" diesel that I'm dumb enough to have in a red can the same size as my 2 gallon jug of "top off the gator with ethanol free" gas.
Now I own a gator engine, part number MIA12834, that cost me $1343.38 plus freight and which can't be returned because it's non-stock. Anybody want it for $1100 plus freight? My company can take credit cards. I can get a freight quote for you via our LTL group if you send me the details of the delivery and if you need a lift gate.
Private message me if you're interested. I likely will not check this thread that often...
Thanks,
Josh
