6x4 coolant flow to heater

I've got a 6x4 Gator with a heater that doesn't heat until the thermostat opens. This is a very cool running engine and I'd just as soon have heat as soon as it's available from the engine. So I'm thinking about removing the thermostat or at least installing a lower temp thermostat.

Question: Where is the thermostat located and is it a standard automotive type unit? Thanks.
