Hi!, I'm new to this forum because I'm at a loss as to what might be the issue and hopefully someone has experienced my situation and might be able to shed some light on it.
I have a 2005 HPX 4x4, best I can tell it has a kawasaki engine (right?)
anyway, it is running rich or at least the spark plugs indicate it (very fouled, black & wet).
It starts OK, idles OK, and runs at very low speeds OK but as I accelerate, it starts to cut out really bad.
Things that have happened recently are the wife ran it out of gas which I don't see that having any bearing on this; and the fuel pump went out and I replaced it with a generic electric from the parts store... I got the lowest pressure pump which I believe was a 2 PSI pump.
I've taken the carb apart multiple times to ensure there was nothing in the needle & seat that might be preventing it from closing. I have throughly cleaned the carb. I see the little solenoid that appears to be a fuel shut off and it appears to be working OK. I don't see any form of power valve that might be ruptured and causing things to be running rich. I've also tried removing the crank case vent to the air intake to ensure I wasn't just shoving lots of oil into it. Compression is good on both cylinders. Best I can tell the timing is fixed but have heard a sheared key could let the flywheel slip and alter timing... I don't have a manual on this so don't even know if I can attach a light and see if the timing is off.
I'm at a loss... any ideas anyone?
(and I raced 1/4 mile for many years so engines, transmissions, axle assemblies, etc... are nothing new to me but on this little 2 cyl engine, I'm hurt'n...)
Any ideas on what to check and how would be greatly appreciated.
